UEFA set to investigate homophobic banner unfurled at Bayern Munich v Arsenal

UEFA are expected to confirm an investigation into how a homophobic banner targeting Arsenal and playmaker Mesut Ozil was allowed into Tuesday night’s Champions League clash between Bayern Munich and Arsenal.

The governing body are set to announce later today that they will probe how the controversial sign – branding Arsenal ‘Gay Gunners’ with a crude caricature of the German midfielder – was smuggled in and unfurled by Bayern Munich fans at the high profile match.

The image of the banner was widely circulated on the internet.
