Germany: 170 hooligans arrested as riot police break up fight between football rivals

One Hundred and seventy football hooligans were arrested as riot police managed to prevent a prearranged fight between arch rival fan groups of Eintracht Braunschweig and Hannover 96, at a building supplies store parking lot in Hildesheim on Friday.

More than 400 riot police officers, dozens of police vehicles, as well as a helicopter, were deployed to the parking lot after receiving an anonymous tip off, just as both sets of fans were supposed to clash on the eve of a fixture between their teams.

The Lower Saxon derby between Eintracht Braunschweig and Hannover 96, will take place at the Eintracht-Stadion in Braunschweig on Sunday.
