All professional football in Greece has been postponed

The football association from Greece (EPO) has decided to suspend all competitions at professional level because the house of the head of the referees has been put on fire.

Georgios Bikas, the head of the referees and old referee himself wasn’t home at the time of the fire however the house sustained quite a lot of damage. The EPO decided to suspend all the matches at professional level after this fire. Last week another member of the referee committee was threatened in front of his house.

Panathinaikos & PAOK
Both clubs came with statements they support the referees no matter what. Panathinaikos director said; “We can’t talk about football when house are being burned to the ground”. He also concluded football can only start again when the investigation into these criminals is finished, even when this is in 2020.

PAOK made the following statement on their website; ”We shouldn’t give in to this mafia, we need to stay strong and unite against these criminals”.
